# The gradient

> The system's only authorized decorative use, with the list of what it can and cannot do.

Terracotta on one side, cobalt on the other, 135 degrees between the two. It marks a single meaning: here the two sides touched.

## Meaning

It is the easiest rule to break in the system, because the gradient is beautiful, and every comfortable use of it (section background, top banner, highlight card, colored icon) erases the meaning it carries.

***

## Uses

**Can:**

* The symbol's node.
* A conversation handing off between team and AI, in both directions.
* The Sotto mark.
* One primary button, at most one per page.

**Cannot:**

* Section, card, or header background.
* Decorative banner, border, or divider.
* Text in gradient.
* Two gradient elements in the same view.
* Gradient with a third color.

## Highlight without an encounter

When all that's needed is a highlight, there is light cobalt #7FA3FF over ink and deep cobalt #1A4FD6 over paper. This is what the homepage uses in the verb of the headline and in the closing line, both in flat blue.

| Over paper                                                  | Over ink                                                 |
